By Ruben Morales Iglesias: The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) is organizing a workshop on sheep and goat slaughter and nutrition management. The three-day training is taking place at the Drift Inn & Aguada Hotel in Santa Elena, Cayo District, from Monday, August 15 through Wednesday, August 17.
“The training is led by three experts from the University of San Carlos in Guatemala, who have more than 20 years of experience in sheep and goat nutrition and slaughter techniques,” said Catherine Hob, head of communication to MAFSE.
The Sheep and Goat Slaughter and Nutrition Management Workshop is part of the second phase of the Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Improvement Project (Sheep Project Phase II) of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) which is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE).
The Breeding Sheep and Goats Guidance and Production System Improvement Project assists Belizean farmers through education, training and outreach.
The second phase of the sheep project, which has a budget of USD 3,000,000 signed in March 2020, is being implemented over a period of four years.
The main objective of the sheep project is to help Belizean farmers to further improve the quality of their sheep and goats, promote the consumption and market penetration of sheep and goat products, and is expected to strengthen the sheep and goat traceability system. to improve the efficiency of the value chain.
