The PNP will organize dialogues with school authorities on safety against violence on campuses

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will hold a series of dialogues with school officials in an effort to heighten security following the shooting attack inside Ateneo de Manila University that left three dead and two injured.

The officer in charge of the PNP, Police Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr., said the dialogues will focus on preventive security measures against acts of violence and crimes outside and inside the school premises for the safety of students, teachers and even parents and other school staff. .

“We plan to have a dialogue with the various stakeholders, especially in schools. We will present our detailed security plans for opening classes and how to strictly enforce procedures against unauthorized persons,” Danao said.

He said the move is timely with face-to-face scheduled to resume in November, as stated by the Vice President and Education Secretary. Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Danao said the PNP also heeded the vice president’s call to emphasize gun violence awareness.

The Quezon City Police District has already filed a series of criminal charges against Chao Tiao Yumol, the gunman who shot former Lamitan Mayor Rose Furigay, his executive assistant and Ateneo security guard on Sunday 24 July.

The gun attack also injured Furigay’s daughter, believed to be an Ateneo law school graduate and a parent of one of the graduates.
