Kaduna government appoints board members of metropolitan authorities, others

The government of Kaduna State has appointed the members of the board of directors of the metropolitan authorities of Kaduna, Kafanchan and Zaria, which were recently created to enable integrated management of the three major cities of the state.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai also approved the appointments of Habiba Bashir Buhari as Director General of Kaduna State Roads Agency and Dr Saheed Salawu as Statistician General of Kaduna State.

The governor’s special adviser for media and communications, Muyiwa Adekeye, disclosed in a statement on Monday.

He said that the laws establishing the Kaduna Capital Territory Authority, Kafanchan Municipal Authority and Zaria Metropolitan Authority were passed following the consideration of draft laws to this effect by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

The governor assented to the laws on August 30, 2021, and implementation began with the appointment of three directors: Muhammad Hafiz Bayero (KCTA), Phoebe Yayi (KMA) and Balaraba Aliyu-Inuwa (ZMA).

The Board of Directors of the Kaduna Capital Territory Authority is made up of the following members:

1. Muhammad Hafiz Bayero (President)
2. Presidents of the Councils of the local communities of Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun and Igabi
3. Bala Mohammed Tijjani, District Chief of Doka
4. Shehu Tijjani, district chief of Makera
5. Aminu Idris, District Chief of Rigasa
6. Stephen Ibrahim, District Chief of Kujama
7. Abubakar Shittu Umar, representative of KEPA
8. Garba Yahaya Rimi, representative of KASTLEA

The statement read: “Habiba Bashir Buhari, Managing Director of KADRA, brings to his new role more than two decades of experience in road engineering and project management to an agency with major responsibility for the roads component of the construction program. urban renewal, and the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of national roads in general. More recently, she worked at the Federal Ministry of Public Works and Housing, as FCT works controller / engineer representative and deputy director of highways / special assistant of public-private partnerships (PPP) to the permanent secretary. She received her first civil engineering degree from Bayero University, Kano, and is also an alumnus of the University of Surrey, England, and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

“She began her engineering and project management career with Afri-Projects Consortium in 1997. She is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Nigerian, American and Canadian Societies of Civil Engineers (MNSE, ASCE & CSCE), the ‘International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) and Engineering Regulatory Council in Nigeria (COREN).

The new general statistician holds a doctorate in biometrics and applied statistics. He studied at the University of Ilorin and at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. He has worked with international development partners to strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems in the education sectors of some states. He was until recently head of the statistics department of the Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna.
