IIT-B Student Who Died By Suicide Reportedly Stressed, Authorities Should Tell Friends

The 26-year-old IIT-B design student who killed himself on the university campus was stressed, sources said. Although it was not clear what it was, academics were more likely to be the concern.

Authorities will speak to friends of the deceased to gather more information about the incident. Although this information is unconfirmed, apparently cell phones belonging to some students have been confiscated for further investigation.

The deceased student’s brother arrived on campus this morning but his parents from Indore, Madhya Pradesh have yet to arrive.

As the student was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar, where he was pronounced dead, it was reported that the investigation was ongoing and one case of accidental death was recorded.

“A very unfortunate incident occurred at IIT Bombay today morning and we lost a second year MSc student. We express our condolences on the passing of our student. We are awaiting his parents who are on their way for Mumbai as well as the full police report,” IIT-B said in a statement released by them. The institute is supposed to form a committee to investigate the incident.
